Alvaro ‘Wrath’ Ramsey
“Mom?” I questioned, and she looked up at me.
Cookie was my mom? What the fuck?!
“Mom, is that really you?”
For my whole life, I was told my mother had died when I was young. The only memory I had of her was her telling me that she was going to the store and then my dad taking us to his house. I never saw her again.
Over the years, her looks had slipped my mind because there were no pictures of her for us to look at. My dad admitted that he wasn’t the best partner to my momma and had a few women on rotation while he was with her, so intimate things like pictures, he didn’t personally have of her. Plus, he didn’t really know her family like that.
My father was gone most of the time, so he didn’t get to really meet her family. He also said the night he found out she had died, he couldn’t bring himself to go back to her house and get her belongings, so he had someone clear it out and sold her house.
We had nothing to remember our mother by, and I said all that to say that I had no idea what she looked like, so there was no way I would have known I was looking at her the whole time!
Cookie, or should I say, my momma, held her arms out and stroked my face. I didn’t realize I was crying until I felt her thumb them my tears away.
“How?” my dad asked with his own tears falling. “I thought you were dead!” he expressed, and she broke down crying.
I was so in shock that I didn’t even know what to do or say at this point.
My mother is alive?!
Guns dropped to his knees and started crying. Our mother’s supposed death was hard on me and Surge, but I knew it was harder for Guns because he never got to spend time with her like we did. He was only weeks old when she died.
He was sobbing so hard and blabbering that I couldn’t make out what he was saying.
“I’m so sorry. I’m sorry!” my mother cried.
Legion just stood there staring with his eyes wide.
“Amanda, I-I don’t understand. You’ve been alive this whole time?” my dad croaked out, and she nodded.
“I didn’t want you to find me while I was like this, but I’ve always been around, watching over our boys,” she said, and then she looked up at me. “You’re so handsome, Alvaro.” She smiled and stroked my face again. “You too, Meshach.”
When she addressed him, he looked up at her.
“My baby boy has all grown up. You look just like Alvaro.”
Guns pressed his head against her stomach, and she hugged him while I just stood there looking at her. Her eyes then turned to Legion, and she smiled up at him.
“You look just like your mother, Pharaoh. You are beautiful just like she was! That was my best friend, and I miss her so much.”
Hearing Legion gasp made me turn to look at him. His eyes were wide with fear and confusion. He even stumbled back a little when my mom tried to touch him. It had me wondering what he was afraid of, but my mind was too overwhelmed to try to figure it out.
I always wondered why I had this unexplained urge to protect and look after Cookie. There was something about her that made me care about what happened to her. From the moment I met her, something drew me to her, so much so that I even offered to help get her clean more times than I could count.
My heart broke to know that my mother was strung out on that shit and that I was the one giving it to her. Every time she came around, I would give her some along with a little money. I told myself that I would rather she get it from me than anybody else, but it was my mother that I was giving it to the whole time.
I dropped to my knees and cried my eyes out.
“It wasn’t your doing, Alvaro, and I’m sorry. It was the only way I knew to be close to you all. Please forgive me.” She rubbed the top of my head.
“Amanda, I don’t understand.” My pops was having a hard time with the fact that my mother had been alive this whole time.
For over twenty years we believed that she was dead. Remembering that caused my tears to stop flowing, and I jumped to my feet.
“You made us believe that you were dead, and you were alive the whole time! How could you abandon us like that?” I yelled at her, and her mouth dropped.
“Baby, I’m sorry. I thought I was protecting you.”
“I don’t want to hear that shit!”
There was nothing in this world that would keep me away from KeKe. I thought when you became a parent, nothing else mattered and that parents would do anything for their kids. It was something my pops always showed and something I thought my momma did too!
But to know she was right in my face and didn’t say shit hurt. Cookie had been in my face for years, so she had more than enough time to tell me the fucking truth!
“If my pops didn’t see you, you wouldn’t have told me the truth!” I continued to yell at her.
“Alvaro, son, calm down.” My pops tried to soothe me, and any other day, it would have worked, but not today. Today I was done with motherfuckers I loved playing with me.
“Shit, Surge!”
Just thinking about how my family seemed to be nothing but motherfucking liars reminded me of why we were rushing out of the house.
“Where’s Jashawn? What’s going on?” Cookie asked as I rushed to my car while I attempted to call his phone again.
“Ask your fucking son!” I growled at her, and she looked at Guns.
“We can talk about this shit later. We need to go now!” my pops called out and grabbed Cookie’s hand.
“What? No, I can’t come!” she protested, and my dad looked at her.
“I lost you once. You not going anywhere again,” he told her as he stared right into her eyes.
I gritted my back teeth, unsure of how to feel about what he said since it was her choice to be away from us, but I pushed that aside because I had more important things going on.
We all climbed into my car, and I told Legion to keep calling Surge or one of his boys out there as I burned tires trying to get to my brother. The trap was about twenty minutes away from where Pac lived, and I was trying to get there in five.
“Still no answer,” Legion said after trying for a few minutes, and I looked up at Guns through the rear-view mirror.
His eyes dropped from mine but not before I silently let him know that I was going to kill him if my brother was dead.
I’m coming, Surge!
Jashawn ‘Surge’ Ramsey
Pop! Pop! Pop!
My eyes widened when I saw Trojan and Kevin turn their guns on Bully and his boys. I wasn’t expecting that shit!
What the fuck was going on?
After seeing how outnumbered we were, I just knew we weren’t all going to make it out alive. I had come to terms with that and made a promise to kill at least one of those motherfuckers before I died. But I damn sure wasn’t expecting help from Trojan or Kevin!
“Fuck y’all foreign motherfuckers! This is New York, bitch!” Trojan roared as he lit their asses up.
Bully and his crew scattered and tried to run, but they were getting laid the fuck out.
Kevin turned to look at me with a smirk on his face.
“The fuck you just standing there for? You better show me who the fuck my daughter is in love with, my nigga!”
Trojan then looked at me too and winked.
“No homo,” he added with a laugh and then went right back to shooting at motherfuckers.
With a smirk on my face, I decided to do just what Kevin suggested and show his ass why the fuck I was his daughter’s nigga. I immediately took out two niggas who were looking around confused as fuck, and when their bodies dropped, I saw Bully running toward his car.
“Surge! Get that nigga!” Kevin yelled, and I nodded.
I took off running after his ass.
Two niggas from his crew turned my way, and their bodies dropped before they finished raising their guns at me. I took a quick look behind me and saw that it was Kevin.
He hit me with a head nod, and I turned back to face where I was going.
Bully looked back and saw me right behind him. He raised his gun, but his punk ass wasn’t fast enough because I shot his ass in the hand and then his knee, making him drop his gun and fall to the ground.
“Arggghhhhhh! Fuck!” he hollered out.
I kicked that motherfucker right in the face, knocking him out cold. I turned around to see my boys standing around looking at all the dead bodies. All of Bully’s crew was dead.
My boys rushed over to me, and they all had the same questioning look on their faces that probably was on mine.
“What the fuck is going on? They helping us now?” Pac asked me.
Just as I was about to answer him, Trojan and Kevin walked over to us.
I stepped in front of my boys and stared at them.
“Care to explain?” I asked, and Kevin looked over at Trojan before looking at me again.
“My daughter loves your ass, man, and I would rather have your irritating ass with her than any other nigga.”
I almost laughed because I knew it hurt him to say that shit to me, but he had more explaining to do than that.
“So, you want me to believe that you did all this shit for Dior? Where was all that fuck me and kill me energy you had from the beginning? You too, Trojan?”
They gave each other another look before Kevin sighed and looked at me again.
“Y’all was right. I let my son down, and I wanted someone else to blame for it. It wasn’t easy to accept that I was wrong as fuck, so don’t expect me to say that shit again,” he said and lightly chuckled.
I hit him with a head nod, and then I looked at Trojan.
“Shit, it was my hate for you big headed motherfuckers that led me to find out that Bully and his niggas were behind all the shit. They were hitting up my spots and leaving y’all names behind.”
My brow arched at that because it was the same shit Wrath said, but we didn’t want to believe him.
Trojan then went on to explain that he had us followed sometime after we hit his two traps in New Jersey, and that was how he found out it was Bully and not us.
“We figured the motherfucker was using us to take over New York, so I let him believe we were riding with him so we could take his ass out. Like I said, I still don’t like you, nigga, if I’m honest, but I’m damn sure not gonna have a foreigner sit on the throne of New York. I would rather it be y’all annoying ass motherfuckers,” Trojan said and looked me in the eyes.
I could see that he didn’t love me, but he damn sure didn’t hate me either.
“Look, a nigga is old as fuck,” Trojan added, and I scoffed like to say no shit.
He stared at me, which made my boys laugh before he simply stuck his middle finger up at me, and I chuckled.
“Like I was saying before your rude, no manners having ass interrupted, I’m old, and I have no son. It’s time I left these streets alone and tried to fix shit with my daughter. Tell Wrath to come see me, and we can talk.”
I tilted my head at him, and he raised his hands to show he was serious. After staring him down for a minute, I nodded.
“You need to deal with this nigga, Surge, but he’s not the only one,” Kevin spoke and nodded toward a sleeping Bully.
I looked down at him and had my own questions, like how the fuck was he still alive when Guns said he killed him?
Some shit wasn’t adding up.
“I’m on it.” I looked at Pac, who instantly grabbed Bully with Tariq, and they carried him to my car.
“How do we explain all this?” I asked, looking around at all the dead bodies, and Kevin laughed.
“Police business and you were cooperating.” He shrugged, and it was like as soon as he said that, his boys started moving around and calling people to get rid of the bodies.
“Surge,” Kevin called out to me, and my eyes met his again. “I did this for Dior, but there is no other nigga out there for her. You were willing to stand up to me for her, so I got to respect that.”
He reached out to shake my hand, and it took me a few seconds before I shook it.
For my girl, I would make peace with her pops as long as this new found peace was real.
“I need to tell you something that you’re not going to like. I was—”
His words were cut off when I heard a car screeching toward us. We all drew our guns again but dropped them when we saw that it was Wrath.
He immediately jumped out of the car with guns aimed at Kevin and Trojan.
“Bro, wait!” I jumped in front of them, and he stopped in his tracks.
“Surge, the fuck are you doing?!” Wrath barked at me.
“They helped me,” I said, and he frowned.
“What the fuck you talking about?” my dad asked, and I quickly ran down what happened.
“Where is Bully?” Wrath asked.
“In my trunk, but how the fuck is he alive? You said you killed him, Guns,” I said to my little brother, who instantly dropped his eyes to the ground.
“The motherfucker was working with them!” Wrath announced, and I choked on fucking air.
“What?”
Wrath nodded to solidify that what he said was the truth, and the fact that Guns couldn’t look up at me again was further confirmation.
“Yo, what the fuck is going on?! You were helping this motherfucker who almost killed me?!” I roared at Guns, and the fool just nodded his head.
“What kind of fucking family is this?” Trojan voiced, and I sighed.
“That’s not all this nigga was doing!” my dad gritted, and the look he gave Guns had me wondering what the fuck else this little nigga was doing because working with our enemy was bad enough.
“He’s been fucking Faye. She’s Bully’s aunt too. And she was the one behind all this shit,” Wrath said from behind clenched teeth.
I swear, all the fucking air left my lungs. I was so shocked that my mouth kept opening and closing, but no words would come out.
“That’s who I was working with too. That’s what I was going to tell you, Surge,” Kevin added, and I turned to look at him.
“What?”
“Faye. She was the one giving me information on y’all. I knew she was fucking with Guns too, but I didn’t know about Bully.”
“This shit just keeps getting deeper and fucking deeper!” Wrath yelled and kicked at the ground. “Fuck!”
“We thought it was Dior this whole time,” Legion said.
We nodded, but Kevin scoffed.
“My daughter wouldn’t even tell me your fucking date of birth.” He rolled his eyes, and I laughed. “I don’t know what you did to her, but she wasn’t helping me! Fuck me being her pops; it was all about Surge.”
He sounded salty as fuck, and it had me dying laughing. We locked eyes, and I smirked, letting him know exactly what I did to his daughter, and his face dropped.
“Let me get the fuck outta here before I forget I made peace with you. Damn nigga fucking my daughter. I need a fucking drink!”
“Y’all need to get out of here,” one of Kevin’s boys shouted, and we all nodded.
The cops were on their way, and they couldn’t see us there.
Kevin and I shook hands again before he went over to do the same to Wrath and my pops.<
br />
“Y’all need to deal with Faye,” he added, and we all agreed with him because she damn sure was going to be dealt with. Fuck that!
“Wrath, come and see me. We have some business to discuss,” Trojan said and walked over to Wrath.
They quietly shared a few words before shaking hands.
“Let’s get out of here,” I voiced, and we walked away, leaving Kevin behind with his boys.
Wrath pushed Guns ahead of us, and all I could do was shake my head at my little brother. I would have never thought it was him behind all this shit, and it was a lot to process.
“What we gonna do about Guns?” I asked Wrath, and he turned to look at me.
“I don’t even fucking know. I just wanna beat his ass!” he said, and I laughed.
“Looks like you already did that.”
I saw Guns’ face, so knowing the truth, I knew it was Wrath who did that shit.
Wrath chuckled and then sighed. “That’s not the only fucking thing I found out tonight,” he said to me as we made it to his car.
“What you mean?”
The back passenger door of his car opened, and Cookie stepped out.
My face twisted in confusion when I saw her.
“Cookie is our mother.”
Damn!
Faye Ramsey
As I lay on my back, everything I had done to get to this point flooded my mind. I knew I was hated, but there was a time when I loved the ground Jackson Larry Ramsey walked on!
When I was just nineteen years old, I met that man in a club and fell in love the same night. He was everything I could ever want in a man and more. He was rich, so fucking handsome, and the king of New York.
Every bitch wanted him; he was just that nigga.
Whenever he stepped into a club, his presence alone shut shit down. He was a King, and I wanted him so badly. It took no time for him to notice me, and we started a whirlwind romance. Well, it was for me. Every day, I fell more in love with him. Although Jackson wasn’t a man who wanted a real relationship, love, marriage, and all the things that I did, I was just sure that he was so in love with me that he would pick me.
