“That’s what the fuck you get for fucking with that slide, bro!” Popeye pushed him, and I chuckled at them.
“Excuse me!” I heard from behind me and turned to see a short bitch looking at us with her face all knotted up like she stepped in some shit.
“Why do you have to stand right outside this building making all of this noise? There are plenty of places for y’all to go, yet you choose to come out here all the time! Do y’all care about the hard-working people who are trying to get some sleep? It’s almost ten at night!” she ranted, and I turned my lip up at her.
“I work hard, bitch! Fuck you talking about?!” Bullet gritted.
She rolled her eyes at him. “I wouldn’t say standing on a corner all day selling God knows what is working hard.”
“Bitch, you don’t know a fucking thing about what I do!” Bullet yelled, and I put my hand on his chest to stop him from charging her.
“Yo, who the fuck are you?” I snapped, and her angry, dark brown eyes locked with mine.
This bitch done pissed me off talking shit.
“Don’t worry about who I am, nigga. Why don’t you and your friends move from in front of the building!”
I pushed my boys, Sly and Popeye, out of the way and walked over to her.
“Who the fuck do you think you talking to?” I peered down at her.
This bitch actually looked me up and down like I was short or some shit.
“Yo, whose bitch is this?” I asked, looking around.
I knew every nigga who lived in the building that she was pointing up at, and I wanted to know what nigga wasn’t training his bitch properly because he was about to get his ass beat on the strength of his talking ass bitch.
“Shit, she’s not one of ours,” Brown said, “but I wouldn’t mind making her mine. What’s your name, baby… you sexy as fuck!” Brown shot his chance, and she looked over at him with a scowl.
“Ugh, please.”
“Damn, bitch, you rude as fuck. Nothing a little dick can’t fix,” Popeye said, and the boys fell out laughing.
I was too angry to even notice if she was cute or not. I had a thing about bitches popping off at the mouth to me. My pops taught me not to put my hands on a bitch, but I would most definitely leg sweep a bitch. Fuck they thought this shit was?
“In your dreams,” the bitch said to Popeye and smacked her lips. “Listen—”
“Nah, you listen. I don’t know what kind of fuck boys you’re used to dealing with, but I am not the fucking one. Now, I suggest you take your nagging, can’t find a nigga, nosey ass back into that fucking building before I get to one,” I said and then leaned down to her face. “Otherwise, us being outside making noise will be the least of your problems.”
“Five… Four… Three…”
She looked into my face with wide eyes, and then she turned around before storming into the building. Even after she disappeared behind the door, I kept my eyes on it.
“Man, that’s the bitch who complains every time we out here, Surge,” one of my workers, Bullet, said, and I looked over at him.
“She lives here?” I asked him.
“Nah, I don’t think so. She just pops up every now and then, but damn if she don’t be pissing me off and shit with her mouth. She’s called the cops a few times too.”
I furrowed my brows from his words.
“Do you think she gon’ call the cops, now?” Sly asked.
“Not if she doesn’t want any fucking problems with me.”
I wasn’t worried, though, because the Ramsey men had this city on lock and the jurisdictional system in our back pockets. She would just be wasting her time and mine when I killed her.
“Damn, she was fine as fuck though,” Popeye said.
“I was too fucking angry to notice,” I honestly said, and they laughed.
I shrugged because when I was mad like that, I saw red and death, not the person’s face.
Believing the situation was done with, I went right back to talking to my boys, and we damn sure didn’t quiet down. That bitch could suck my eleven inches!
It wasn’t often that I came out in the streets like I was now, but I missed my boys and had decided to kick it with them for a minute, since it had been a long ass time. Plus, I wanted motherfuckers to see me and know that we were still in control of our shit.
Motherfuckers liked to get brave when they thought niggas weren’t around. I made sure to pop up periodically to let them know that the Ramseys ran shit.
Once my big brother, Wrath, put me on overseeing the streets of Brooklyn, I made sure I let niggas know that I wasn’t the one to play with just like he wasn’t. People knew me as the younger brother and thought I was something to joke around with. I bet their mama realized how real I was when they were singing hymns in a black dress after burying their ass.
“It’s mad brick out here, yo,” Popeye said and shivered as I nodded.
“Facts,” I agreed, thinking about leaving soon.
“I would like to say that I’m surprised to see your face out here, Jashawn Ramsey, but looking at the company you’re keeping, I can say that I’m not.”
My face changed as soon as I heard that annoying ass voice behind me. Angrily, I ran my tongue over the top row of my teeth and then slowly turned to face him.
“Detective Dick.” I addressed the fuck boy detective, and he chuckled at the name I gave him. That wasn’t his name, but I didn’t give a fuck.
“Shouldn’t you be somewhere creating false indictments to get someone in my family arrested?” I asked with a smirk.
This pig had spent the last year terrorizing the fuck outta my family. Every time one of us turned around, he was right there trying to get some charges drawn up against us. And in that year, he’d been unsuccessful more times than I could count.
The nigga had been quiet for a few weeks, but I guess his ass was back!
He was a new cop who wasn’t on my pops’ payroll, and who seemed to have a fucking hard on for my family for some reason. He just stayed fucking with us because he thought he was untouchable. For now, he was, because he made sure to fuck with people in high places who didn’t fuck with us.
However, Wrath was about to make some major moves, and when he did, this motherfucker wasn’t going to be untouchable anymore. But I would let him flex his muscles.
“You may have everyone else fooled, but I know that your people aren’t this well respected, law-abiding family that y’all are playing to be, especially seeing you here with people like Bullet.” He turned his eyes to Bullet, who just sucked his teeth and waved him off.
He then turned his attention back to me.
I almost laughed at this average height, ugly, black motherfucker with a bald head, trying to look like he was intimidating someone. He forgot that I was Jashawn Ramsey and didn’t a motherfucker alive scare me.
“I didn’t know it was a crime to hang out with my homeboys.”
“Funny how those homeboys are all dope dealers.”
“Allegedly,” I added to fuck with him, and he bit the inside of his cheek. “Well, according to you because there’s no proof of that allegation. And, to be honest, that has nothing to do with them being friends of mine. We all go way back.” I shrugged.
“Yeah, way to the back of a trap house.”
I laughed and stroked my chin.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Smirking, he stepped closer to me, and said, “I know you and your family are running drugs in this city, and sooner or later, I will catch one of you.”
I chuckled.
“Still don’t know what you talking ’bout, but I’m about to go home and take a shit. You can come smell it and see if you catch what I ate for dinner today.”
My boys laughed while the agent just glared at me.
“See you around, Mr. Ramsey, and tell your pops I said hi.”
“Good night, Mr. Pussy, tell your wife to come suck my dick.”
He snarled at m
e, and I just smiled. He had no idea that he was in danger fucking with me and my family.
Nodding his head, he turned his back on me and walked away.
I watched as he climbed into his car and drove off.
As soon as his car disappeared, I took my phone out and sent Wrath a text.
Me: Pork is back on sale. We should get some.
Wrath knew exactly what I meant by what I sent. A few seconds later, he messaged back.
Wrath: Say nothing.
Pharaoh ‘Legion’ Ramsey
The next night
With my eyes low, I scanned my surroundings. Taking a pull of my blunt, I took in all the different faces around me.
Everyone was having a good time dancing to the music and mingling, but I wasn’t there for any pleasantries or for having a good time.
Taking another pull, I locked eyes with my brother, Surge, who gave me a subtle head nod from where he was posted up near the bar. I returned the gesture and then looked around to make a mental note of where his three soldiers were posted up too.
Usually, I did a hit on my own, but since my intended target barely traveled alone, my brother wasn’t trying to hear that shit. I appreciated him, even though I knew I had this. I had been killing since I wasn’t even old enough to know what pussy was.
My pops had inserted his ass into my life when I was ten years old—before that, all he did was send money or birthday cards. Unlike other little boys who were learning how to play ball or ride a bike, my pops was training me to be a killer. My mama hated it, but my pops didn’t give a fuck. I was his son and going to do what the fuck he wanted me to do.
If I even thought about disobeying him or I missed my targets, he would have grown ass motherfuckers whoop my ass. I’m not talking about some little ass beats, I’m talking about beating my ass like I was a grown ass nigga and not a little boy. I would be laid up in the hospital with all types of fractured ribs, concussions, and broken bones—my pops really didn’t give a fuck.
He said it was for my own good, but all it did was make me a stone-cold killer. There wasn’t a soul on this earth that I gave a fuck about and that included me. My mother passed away when I was twelve, and my heart stopped working that day too.
I was a nigga whose secrets haunted me in nightmares even when I wasn’t asleep. I was damaged beyond repair, but I guess that’s what made me so good at what I did. My pops didn’t abuse me—he went beyond that. The shit he did to me made me so fucking cold that I would kill a bitch, kill her whole fucking family, and sleep at night like it was nothing. I felt nothing. And with a name like Legion, I knew where I was going when I died.
My thoughts were cut when a bottle girl walked over with my drink.
“There you go, handsome.” She smiled seductively at me, and I didn’t even respond to her.
I didn’t let too many people close to me outside of my three brothers, Wrath, Surge, and Guns, and my step sister, Clare. They were the only people I could say I remotely cared about, as fucked up as it sounded, so this chick was wasting her time.
There was already one chick in my life who got my dick, and that was enough for me. If I wanted to fuck, I knew where to go. Those were the only people I needed around me. Not for my sake but for theirs!
Pushing a hand into my back pocket, I pulled out some money and handed it to her for a tip. She smiled and took it out of my hand then I turned my attention to my drink to let her know she could go.
Thankfully, she caught on and disappeared out of my section as quickly as she came.
Just as I was about to put my drink up to my lips, I saw my target walk into the club with four other men.
I watched as he greeted women while he made his way over to a section not too far away from me.
In all honesty, I didn’t know who this motherfucker was or what he did for someone to want him dead. I didn’t care to know. He was just a job that needed to be completed and nothing more.
Unaware that I was watching his every move, the nigga and his friends wasted no time bringing women into their section and ordering a shit load of drinks.
Surge and I made eye contact just for me to let him know my target was there. Again, he subtly nodded.
My eyes landed on the group of men again, and I continued to watch them as I sipped my drink.
After watching them for a little while, I started to plan out in my head how I was going to get at him, but then the nigga got up and headed for the restrooms with only one guy.
Knowing that was my chance, I rose to my feet too.
They walked into the back just as a chick with thick, curly hair walked behind them. His other friends were too busy drinking and talking to females to see me move out of my section in my target’s direction.
He must not be someone important to only walk with one nigga, I thought as I walked through the crowd of people. My cell buzzed in my back pocket, and I pulled it out to see that Surge had texted me.
Surge: We will keep an eye on his people. Be quick.
I looked up just as I made it to the back and nodded at Surge to let him know I got his message and would be quick.
Stepping out into the hall where the restrooms were located, I was happy to see that there wasn’t a line of people waiting, not that it would have stopped me. This club was a small, hole in the wall place that wasn’t very busy. I looked around and saw that the men’s restroom was half way down the hall on my left. The women’s one was on my right, and a back entrance was at the end.
Knowing my target was in the restroom, I made my way toward it just as my eyes landed on the door to the women’s restroom again. That’s when I remembered the chick with all the hair going this way too, and I knew she was inside.
Who she was and if she walked into something she didn’t need to see wasn’t my problem.
I had murked niggas while they slept in bed with their chicks. I didn’t give a fuck. I had been in shootouts with niggas where innocent people got hit up, but that was just part of the game, I told myself. If that was true, why the fuck was I still standing there looking at the women’s restroom?
My phone buzzed in my pocket again, and I knew that was Surge telling me to either hurry up or that someone was coming.
All I needed to do was slip inside the restroom, kill my target and his boy, then bounce out of the back entrance. So, why the fuck was I walking toward the women’s restroom?
The odds were already not in my favor with two against one, and here I was about to complicate it further.
Shit!
I walked into the women’s restroom without a reason why.
The fuck was I doing?
A’Moya Morse
“Why am I even here?” I spoke out as I used the toilet.
Here I was in this stupid ass, run-down club that I didn’t want to be in, all because of my cousin Chantel. She told me she just needed to talk to someone quickly after she tricked me into riding with her, and since I didn’t want her to come inside alone, I followed her, believing we wouldn’t be that long.
That was damn near two hours ago, and I was still here! Every time I told her I was leaving, she would tell me just ten more minutes. Being the softie that I was for my cousin, I would agree, even though I knew she didn’t mean it. Plus, I just couldn’t leave her, even though I really wanted to.
Chantel and I were close as hell; we were both twenty-four with me being only nine months older. We did everything together.
I was very quiet at school, so a lot of people thought I was weird and stayed away from me. My only friends were my family. Chantel really was my best friend, who I would do anything for. I think that was why she got away with a lot of shit and coerced me into doing things I didn’t want to do. Like being in this club.
One thing I hated about Chantel was that she never told me the truth. Had she just told me she was going to the club to be with her sleazy boyfriend, Angelo, I would have told her hell no!
Shit, who was I kidding? I probably would still have come if
she asked me to. I had a soft spot for my cousin, and she knew it. Either way, I had a hard time telling her no, and she knew that too.
Flushing the toilet—annoyed at myself—I fixed my clothes and moved my long, curly hair out of my face.
My head was pounding, and I was done. Ready to go.
As soon as I go out there, I’m telling her that I’m leaving whether she’s ready or not, I thought.
From the ringing in my ears, I knew that it was time for me to go. This time I was going whether Chantel wanted to or not. She was with her boyfriend—who I couldn’t stand because I knew he was only using her—so she could stay with his ass.
Making sure there was no tissue on my shoes and my dress was fixed right, I opened the stall door. I gasped and damn near jumped out of my own skin when I looked up and saw a tall man standing there looking at me.
I shrieked when he rushed into the stall with me and closed the door behind him. The way I was so frightened, I thought I was going to piss on myself even though I had just used the bathroom.
His handsome face frowned as he took in my appearance.
I had seen good looking men before in my life, but I had never seen someone as beautiful as this man here. His beautiful hazel eyes sparkled as he took in my features while I did the same to him. On his head was a black fitted, and he was dressed in black from head to toe. My eyes scanned over his light complexion, perfect, thick pink lips, and long goatee.
He was just too beautiful for words!
His cologne swirled up my nose and made me feel dizzy from how good it smelled. My eyes landed on his perfect, thick lips before they found their way up to his eyes again.
I didn’t understand why he was just standing there looking at me, but then I saw his lips moving, which made me realize that he was in fact talking to me.
Shit, what did he say?
I was too busy taking in his appearance to even realize that he was talking to me, so I had missed it all. Plus, I had no idea why he was even talking to me in the first place when I didn’t know him at all.
